Somehow my Rangda doesn’t look scary as it should be, perhaps conveying my playground delight.
Rangda is a widow-witch, who plays a prominent role in Balinese traditional ritual, Calon Arang, take place in Pure Dalem or cemetary temple and always starting around midnight. Terrifying to behold, the child eating Rangda, depicted as a mostly nude old woman, with long and unkempt hair, pendulous breast, and claws. Her face is traditionally a horrifying fanged and goggled-eyed with a long tounge.
She wears striped shirt and pants, with a white cloth around her waist, an important instrument of her evil magic.
Rangda represent the force of evil, death and destruction, and she is often associated with the Hindu goddess Durga.

Supernaturalists believe Nyi Blorong is not Gusti Kanjeng Ratu Kidul, The Queen of South Sea. This believe is contradict wikipedia, regardless, they both dwelling in South Sea, carrying identical symbolic colour,which is green, identical power over the ocean, identical beauty, and many other similarities. Two things distinguish them is that Gusti Kanjeng Ratu Kidul never give any material subject to people, while Nyi Blorong open for those who invoke her for wealth, but should provide someone’s life in return. Secondly, Nyi Blorong is beautiful woman in snake body and it can transform into perfect woman body when needed, while Gusti Kanjeng Ratu Kidul is the other way around.
Nyi Blorong, after taking life provided by greedy people, she would shake her scale and as it falling it will change into gold coins.
The Queen of South Sea or Gusti Kanjeng Ratu Kidul is a legendary goddess in Javanese and Sundanese mythology.
Common people known her as Nyi Roro Kidul, but she is not her. Those with deeper understanding, keep straightening this confusion and strictly use honorific name to refer to her, which is Gusti Kanjeng Ratu. She is an angel from heaven, dwelling in the heart of Hindia Ocean, South Sea of Java, therefore “Kidul” is attached to her, as kidul mean south in Javanese language, so she is The Queen of South. There are 40 kingdom in South Java Sea, Gusti Kanjeng Ratu Kidul, Nyi Roro Kidul, Nyi Blorong and other Nyi, have their own territory in the deep ocean, but Gusti Kanjeng Ratu Kidul is the most honour and on higher level than others.
She always be a spiritual partner or wive of the Susuhunan (equal to king) of Solo/Surakarta in Central Java also the Sultan of Yogyakarta, particularly partner in political decision. The Sultans believe, to achieve harmony in society should include living in harmony with the spirits surrounding his kingdom territory i.e. the spirit of Mount Merapi, Mount Lawu, South Sea and above, Nirvana.
In Solo/Surakarta Palace, the Susuhunan build a tower in the palace courtyard, specially to meet with Gusti Kanjeng Ratu Kidul. She is riding a golden chariot to travel to the land but many time she just appear.

This degradable cocoon showed at Marin Cheese Factory in spring 2010 is reincarnation from its original non-degradable material I made in Bali, 2002. It’s not a matter of environment at the first place, it’s about getting free stuff easily and abundantly to work with.
Climbing ivy, willow branches and other unknown tree branches in the backyard needs to trim from time to time, and there big pile of free material.
Transforming the old idea, developed in my home country and re-execute here in new homeland, is somehow connecting me to the spirit particularly in art, between two country. bersambung…
